DEA refuse to acknowledge the potential of cannabis
In an opinion piece in the New York Times, a columnist says that the DEA’s decision to keep cannabis as a Schedule 1 drug is “deeply misguided”, citing research that shows that it is no more dangerous than alcohol. Federal law currently regards cannabis as an extremely dangerous substance with no medical use, making it extremely difficult to obtain permission to conduct scientific research that could ultimately prove its value. Among the obstacles researchers face are tons of red tape, and limited legal supply sources.
