CBD Oil: what it is and what it’s used for
CBD oil, also known as hemp extract or cannabis oil, is made by diluting cannabidiol (CBD), one of the most studied active compounds of the Cannabis sativa L. plant, in a carrier oil such as hemp seed oil or MCT oil.
Unlike THC, CBD is completely free from psychoactive effects. This means that CBD oil does not alter perception, cognition, or mood in a “high” sense, but rather helps the body restore its natural balance.
CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS), a network of receptors and molecules responsible for maintaining homeostasis, the body’s internal equilibrium. The ECS plays a key role in regulating sleep, mood, pain, inflammation, and immune response.
When this system is out of balance due to stress, trauma, or chronic conditions, CBD acts as a natural modulator that supports the ECS in restoring equilibrium and well-being.
