What do sport and cannabis have in common? They contribute in a positive and natural way to health.
In 2018 the World Anti-Doping Agency removed CBD (cannabidiol) from the list of prohibited substances in sport and included it among substances suitable for medical use.
It was an important decision to introduce both professional and recreational athletes to the use of CBD.
The therapeutic and pharmacological properties of CBD make it an excellent supplement for sportsmen and women and all those who exercise regularly.
CBD can even be a good alternative to corticosteroids, opioids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Let's find out more about how CBD and sport are a good match and how Enecta works to promote physical and mental wellbeing through exercise.
Here is what we will see:
CBD and sport: why?
One of Enecta's objectives is to promote the physical and mental wellbeing of all, and to help people become aware of their right to health in order to take full advantage of it.
That is why we strive to make the potential of CBD known to those who engage in physical activity.
Cannabidiol is a non-psychoactive phytocannabinoid widely known in the scientific community for its therapeutic and pharmacological properties, which among other things, make it the ideal supplement for those who practice sport.
Let's take a closer look at the benefits of CBD for those engaged in physical activity.
Analgesic properties: CBD can positively affect the performance of athletes by reducing hyperalgesia, i.e. hypersensitivity to pain, and also all painful impulses felt as a result of a harmless stimulus. It is a powerful analgesic that is particularly effective against chronic pain. It relieves pain caused by contusions and muscle tears, which are common in all types of sports.
Anti-inflammatory properties: CBD is effective in reducing inflammation and swelling caused by blows, injuries or overexertion. It is very useful for sports such as rugby, soccer or football where sports injuries can be common. sportivi.
Restorative properties: CBD helps boost the immune system due to its ability to interact with receptors in our endocannabinoid system. It is a powerful tonic that helps regain strength and energy after prolonged exertion such as a sports competition or a session in the gym.
Anxiolytic properties: CBD can be very useful for balancing mood, fighting anxiety and panic attacks. It can therefore be a panacea for dealing with pre-race stress and long training sessions.
Regulatory properties: sleep-wake cycle: the relaxing and soothing effects of CBD make it capable not only of helping you sleep the night before a competition, but also of restoring the natural sleep-wake cycle, which is essential for any athlete, competitive or not, to perform at their best.
Enecta and sport
Regular physical activity helps the body to stay fit and prevent many diseases and disorders. Moving can be a great help in avoiding osteoporosis, heart disease, diabetes and even mood disorders.
Yet ISTAT (the Italian National Institute for Statistics) research shows that a large percentage of the population does not get enough exercise.
Enecta believes it is essential to promote the concept that health also and above all comes through physical activity.
This is why we organise sporting events in various Italian and European cities, but also and especially in less populated and well-known areas, the same ones we have chosen for our crops.
Here are two of the projects we have created and have been continuing to do for some years:
Enecta Free Fitness
Enecta Free Fitness is a project set up in 2017 to inspire people, of all genders, ages and backgrounds, to the culture of movement in the open air. The motto of the project, which perfectly sums up its intentions and methods, is: wellness has no price.
This is an initiative that started in Bologna in 2017, which we later took to Naples and Barcelona as well, and which consists of offering free, continuous lessons in different sports disciplines.
Even during the Covid emergency, we continued to offer our contribution to wellness using the online mode. In addition to promoting movement in the open air as a lifestyle, Free Fitness has created new social synergies, groups, friendships, communities.
