CBD Products Back to Basics

CBD products are making headlines, and they’re taking on a few new forms too. We take a back-to-basics look at CBD products.

It’s take a few decades for our interest in cannabinoids and CBD products to reach fever-pitch, but these days, there are fresh stories in the news almost every day. If you set up alerts, you’ll find that a lot of them are getting rehashed over and over again, weeks, months, or even years after they first hit the news. That’s because everyone’s interested in cannabis these days, and newshounds know they’ll get good readership figures if they write about cannabis.

As for CBD products, there seems to be an endless array of them ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous. There are gums, creams, patches, edibles, CBD infused water, and more, and though none of them will impart a high, they’re proving extremely popular. To be honest, some seem rather gimmicky. After all, you end up paying more for your CBD if you get it in a product that includes “value add” steps after the CBD itself has been extracted from the plant. The active ingredient remains CBD, and the less it’s processed, the less you pay to get it.

Some processing is necessary to boost concentration

There are people who swear by raw cannabis juicing, but it takes a strong stomach and about 25 leaves a day to get the benefits. That’s because cannabis, like any other living organism, consists mostly of water.

So, although that rich green smoothie may look like it means business, it’s still mostly water. But if one extracts the essential oils from cannabis, you can get the same effect, and the same active ingredients (including those mysterious terpenes) without having to force down a whole lot of raw cannabis.

CBD oil is the most basic concentrate

That doesn’t mean it’s easy to make, but it does mean you get all the nutrition except for bulky water and fiber. All it takes is a few drops under the tongue, and you’re good to go. For those of us who can’t have a whole bunch of cannabis plants in the backyard, and who are likely to pull a face at a green smoothie, that’s a decided benefit.

When you choose a scientifically produced CBD oil, you even know how much CBD is in it, helping you to adjust your serving until you find the right one, and then it’s just a matter of keeping your regimen the same, even when you move on to a new bottle of CBD oil. As far as ease of use goes, this is a winner.

But once again, there is a slight drawback. Apart from the amount that’s absorbed in your mouth, the rest goes through your digestive system and takes a while to act. And although CBD doesn’t make you high, it has noticeable calming effects and is often used medicinally by people suffering from various conditions. They don’t want to wait for their feeling of relief. Now what?

Say hello to e-liquid

Smoking brings on nearly instantaneous effects, but we all know that smoking is bad for us. The only alternative with effects as rapid is vaping, so e-liquids have also become very popular as CBD products. In the UK, the NHS is testing a CBD vape pen, and has dropped broad hints that it’ll be targeting multiple sclerosis sufferers in its trials. But even those who are into health or just want to relax are finding CBD e-liquid to be a pleasant vape product.

CBD products that are almost pure CBD

Lastly, we have those who want active ingredient in its most concentrated form, and CBD crystals with 99% pure CBD provide the answer for these people. Now they can dab instead of vape, or they can make edibles, or even dilute the crystals in hemp oil for something that’s very like regular CBD oil extracted straight from the plant.

A final caveat

Whichever CBD product you choose, do be careful to ensure you get nothing but the most ethically manufactured, organic CBD extracts. You don’t want any toxins or contaminants spoiling the effect of your CBD products.
